Brandon Patrick Starkey, age 28, was charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony, and domestic abuse assault while using or displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor.

According to documents filed in Floyd County District Court, on March 10, Starkey allegedly assaulted a person and “placed the barrel of a shotgun inside of her mouth and threatened to shoot her. …  The victim was placed in fear for her life and of serious injury. The defendant’s threats were carried out in a manner creating a reasonable expectation that the threat would be carried out,” the criminal complaint on the felony charge states.

The alleged victim “reported that the defendant threw her around by her hair, hit her across the face several times, spit on her, placed the barrel of a shotgun in her mouth, and threatened to shoot her. The victim was taken to the hospital and had the following injuries: unequal pupil size, a cut on her nose, pain on the scalp, and clumps of hair missing,” according to the criminal complaint on the assault charge.

Starkey is being held on a $10,000 cash only bond in the Floyd County Jail.

Starkey has also been charged with willful injury resulting in serious injury, a Class C felony, and willful injury resulting in bodily injury, a Class D felony, for an incident that allegedly occurred on Oct. 31, 2021.

According to court documents in that case, Starkey and two others, Zachary James Starkey and Michelle Lea Keagle, repeatedly struck a person without justification causing a serious injury.

“The victim sustained a severe laceration to the left eyebrow, left orbital fracture and left orbital muscle damage,” the criminal complaint says. “The incident started as a verbal altercation between intoxicated friends that escalated into a physical assault.”

Zachary Starkey, age 28, of Charles City, and Keagle, age 32, were also both charged with willful injury resulting in serious injury, a Class C felony, and willful injury resulting in bodily injury, a Class D felony, the same charges as Brandon Starkey.

All three have pleaded not guilty in this case and all three are set to go to trial separately on April 26.

Keagle’s address is listed as Morris, Illinois, in the original complaint, but is listed as Charles City in other documents.
