Daredevil band Viva Knievel will be the main stage headliner when Charles City hosts the RAGBRAI crowd on its overnight stay Thursday, July 28, the Charles City RAGBRAI committee announced today (Friday).

An estimated 15,000 to 20,000 people take part in the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa and will be spending the night in Charles City as the fourth night stop in the event’s ride across the state.

Viva Knievel, an eight to 10-piece band out of Minnesota, features a full horn section and will take the crowd on a full-throttle journey through the decades, according to the local committee.

The group delivers the best renditions of funk, soul, modern and contemporary hits with “high energy, face-melting guitar solos and earth-rumbling renditions of all your favorite songs that other bands are too afraid to play,” the committee said.

This will be Viva Knievel’s first appearance along the RAGBRAI route, but band members are no strangers to keeping large crowds rocking, the committee said.

“We are excited to welcome Viva Knievel to Charles City for their RAGBRAI debut,” said Charles City RAGBRAI co-chair Lanie Sanvig, who is leading the committee in charge of entertainment. “Come VIVA with us in Charles City!”
