Nearly $45,000 in scholarships given to Charles City upcoming graduates

Scholarships ranging from $250 to $2500 were awarded to the upcoming graduates from Charles City High School, Carrie Lane High School, Floyd Gospel Lighthouse Academy and area homeschooled students Sunday evening at the Dollars for Scholars award presentation, held at Trinity United Methodist Church.
In all, $44,700 was given away to 48 soon-to-be graduates. Guest speakers at the event included Melanie Johanningmeier, Tim Mitchell and Tad Barry.
Charles City Dollars for Scholars has awarded more than $680,000 in scholarships to over 1,200 students since 1996. The group is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to work with the community to support and recognize the efforts of students pursuing a vocational, technical, associate or bachelor’s degree.
The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa is a voice and catalyst for connecting donors, non-profit organizations, professional advisors, community leaders and other partners to inspire charitable giving and improve the quality of life in communities across the state. The foundation partners with Dollars for Scholars to streamline the application and selection process for the scholarships.
Dollars for Scholars Board Members for 2021-22 are Kathy Herrick, Charlie Newman, Kim Wendel, Melanie Johanningmeier, Andy Hintgen, Ammie Joslin, Rachel Page, Eric Mayhew and Julie De Bower. Student advisory members are Ragan Hintgen, Katie Prichard, Zadie Pittman and Nick Williams.

Celestino Tamayo received the $500 Lessin Company and $250 Stephen Davidson Memorial scholarships.
Chase Crooks received the $500 L & J Industries and $1,500 Coulson Dollars for Scholars Founders scholarships.

Christian Hughes received the $500 CCHS Class of 1979 Scholarship.
