A total of 36 soon-to-be graduates of Charles City High School received at least one award, grant or scholarship recently at CCHS’s Senior Recognition Night, which was held on Wednesday, May 11, at Comet Gym.

A total of 53 scholarships or awards were presented, with more than $161,000 awarded.

CCHS Counselor Chealsey Moen and CCHS Associate Principal Heather Phillips both gave speeches to the graduates at the ceremony.

Moen thanked all the scholarship donors who came forward and helped support the students.

“It’s always nice to recognize our seniors for all the hard work they put in throughout their K-12 careers,” Moen said. “Our students are very fortunate to have both Dollars For Scholars and our Senior Recognition Night.”

Gea Calpito was presented with the Tye and Cathy Darland Scholarship, which includes full tuition at the University of Iowa for four years. Deven Ignacio-Castillo was presented with the Hagen Scholarship, which includes $6,000 each college semester for up to eight consecutive semesters.

Charles City Noon Kiwanis Scholarship ($600) — Brinn Lahr.

Margaret Wolf Scholarship ($4,251) — Emma Schmiedel.

Jane Sylvester Scholarship ($1,000 annually, renewable additional three years) — Kaylee Anderson.

Elaine M. Lane Scholarship ($500) — Susana Gonzalez, Rachel Hoffman, Christian Howe.

Charles City Rotary Club Scholarship ($1,000) — Lydia Staudt, Rachel Hoffman.

American Legion Auxiliary Shannon Wilson Unit 174 Scholarship ($700) — Brayton Quade, Colton Crooks, Kaleb Cotton, Alyvia Vance, Rachel Hoffman.

First Security Scholarship ($500) — Deven Ignacio-Castillo, Brandon Ignacio-Castillo.
