What’s one to do when they’ve accumulated years’ of antiques?

Open a business and set them up for sale.

That was the motivation for Roger Lubbert, a Floyd resident, to open up Roger’s Relics, a new business that sells antiques and collectibles and offers consignment in Floyd.

The store opened on May 18 this year, and has enjoyed some success since then – thanks in part to Lubbert’s large personal collection of antiques.

A self-employed carpenter since 1974, Lubbert recently opened Roger’s Relics as a way to distribute his collection. “I had a lot of antiques and collectibles at home,” he said. “And my sisters didn’t want to deal with them after I died!” he joked.

Lubbert had collected “a lot of glassware” over the years, and decided that opening an antique store was the best option to help thin out his collection.

The store, located at 921 First Ave. in Floyd, is packed with glassware, antique toys and furniture. Visitors can expect a “wide open space, with furniture, consigned toys and newer, repurposed items,” Lubbert said.

How’s business? “The first week was good,” said Lubbert. “It slowed down the second week, but we expect more now that school’s out and people are traveling.”

Roger’s Relics is open Wednesday through Friday from 10-5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
