Snap Fitness of Charles City’s fifth anniversary is Wednesday, and they are celebrating the occasion by offering free, military-style workouts to the public at the Iowa National Guard Armory.

The goal of Military Muscle Madness is to get people of various ages, including youth, to come enjoy a day filled with exercise and “good, healthy competition,” said Marlowe Jung, Snap Fitness owner, operator and personal trainer.

Those who wish to participate are encouraged to visit the Snap Fitness Facebook page to register for one of the remaining time slots, or stop by the fitness center at 222 N. Main St. to sign up in person. People can also register on Wednesday at the Armory, located at 2003 Clark St.

Snap Fitness opened on Aug. 17, 2017.

“The first year we just got our feet underneath us and then provided different opportunities so we could expand the business,” Jung said. “Obviously we had a small little break in there due to COVID and whatnot, but we were really lucky and really blessed to be able to bounce back. We haven’t quite fully recovered, but I’ll take every opportunity as a new blessing.”

Like all other Snap Fitness locations, the one in Charles City is open to its members 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The center offers cardio equipment, strength training, personal trainers and group classes.

Jung said class offerings depend on what members currently want and instructor availability.

Past classes have included yoga and pilates.

Right now, Snap Fitness is offering a kickboxing class, a healthy lifting class for those ages 60 and older, and a high-intensity interval class.

In 2021 Jung and her husband, Jay, converted part of the gym space into McCoy Smoothies & More.

“We are always looking at new ways to expand our business in regards to better offerings for classes, instructors, personal trainers, looking at buying some additional pieces of equipment for our members so that they can keep their strength and conditioning program and workout program fully maximized, and then we would like to introduce some additional strength and conditioning classes so people feel more comfortable and have a better understanding of strength training,” Jung said.

She encourages the public to stop by and talk to the staff and meet the personal trainers.

“I think we are the hidden little gem in our town in regards to more of a big city feel in our small community,” she said.
