TLC: The Learning Center child care should be able to move into its new location at the former middle school building shortly after the first of the year.

Lisa Garden, president of the TLC board, said some of the logistics are still being worked out, but they hope to get the majority of their furniture, equipment and supplies moved from the current location on North Jackson Street to their new home during the week between Christmas and New Year’s.

The plan is to close TLC for that week, she said. Typically the child care would be open at that time, but attendance is usually lower with more parents home between the holidays, so that looks like a good time for the changeover.

“We’re going to let parents and staff know that we hopefully will be closed that week for the move to give them proper time to make arrangements for alternate day care during that week,” she said.

The actual move-in date for the staff and kids will depend on inspections by the fire marshal, receiving the certificate of occupancy from the city and perhaps some other details, but hopefully that will come quickly, Garden said.

“We’ve already moved a lot of things. We have the pod outside that Cambrex has generously given us to use the last year to store a lot of equipment in. We have that, and we’ve moved a few things, but it’s the day-to-day things that they use that have to get over there, like the cribs, like anything that’s in the rooms currently,” she said.

“There’s still going to be quite a bit. It’s going to take all that week, I assume, to move things,” she said.
