Roughly 50 kids put their home design skills to work on Tuesday, making gingerbread houses at the Charles City Public Library’s after-school program.
With frosting in hand, the children assembled the miniature homes out of graham crackers and decorated them with a colorful variety of candy and confections.
“It’s great,” said Children’s Librarian Stacey Leerhoff. “It’s a fun part of the holiday.”
The after-school program, known for “getting messy with Miss Stacey,” has been meeting since September to provide area kids with creative crafts to enjoy. This month’s holiday-themed activities don’t stop at gingerbread houses. Next Tuesday, kids are invited to the library to create Christmas cards for their loved ones.
Meanwhile, for the older kids, there will be a Teen Iron Chef contest on Dec. 30 to close out the year.
