Charles City Library ready to reopen doors (really this time)

After multiple delays, the Charles City Public Library is finally ready to re-open to the public.

The library has been closed since early February to facilitate the instillation of new flooring in the building’s lobby, as well as other updates such as painting. The project was initially projected to keep the library closed until Feb. 23, but the work took longer than anticipated and some of it had to be redone, extending the reopening date multiple times.

As of Thursday, the work is officially complete and, with the exception of the gallery, the library is ready to reopen to the public on Friday morning (today).

“We moved everything today and cleaned up everything so we’re good to go,” said Library Director Annette Dean on Thursday afternoon. “I would have opened up today but with 9 inches of snow in the forecast I thought I’d hold off.”

An open house party following the reopening had been planned, but is now on a tentative hold as the library staff works around Spring Break schedules. Dean says that the open house will be rescheduled in the coming weeks.
