Who will be Charles City’s next Man of the Year and Woman of the Year?

Some of Charles City’s top volunteers will be in the spotlight and honored on Friday, April 28, at the annual Community Volunteer Recognition Event.

Co-organized by Main Street Charles City and the Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce, the event will be held at the Charles City Senior Center, 900 Hulin St., beginning at 7:30 a.m. with a light breakfast. The event usually concludes around 9 a.m., and is open to all. There is a $5 admission fee to help with expenses.

Any and all non-profit organizations in Charles City are invited to participate and honor their top volunteer or volunteers.

Nominations are now being accepted through the Chamber for the Charles City Man of the Year, Woman of the Year and Caught in the Act award winners, to presented at this event.

The Man and Woman of the Year awards honor persons who have truly gone the extra mile in their career and/or lives to help make Charles City a great place to live, work and play through their outstanding community service,” said Mark Wicks, Charles City community development director.

The Caught in the Act Award is for people nominated who were seen this past year doing a selfless act to help others or to make their community better.

“It could be for picking up litter in a public place, shoveling out a neighbor in need, etc. If you saw them, you can nominate them!” Wicks said.

Nomination forms are available at www.charlescitychamber.com, under “News,” as well as at the Chamber office at 401 North Main St. To be considered nominations must be received back no later than 5 p.m. on April 3.

“Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend and help thank our wonderful volunteers,” Wicks said.
