Charles City High School students dressed up for a night under the stars as they enjoyed this year’s high school prom.
“It went very well,” said prom coordinator Sarah Downing.
The event kicked off with a Grand March at the middle school as about 150 kids walked through the gymnasium to show off their fancy outfits for their friends and family and to see Breyer Ellison and Claire Eckenrod crowned prom king and queen.
“We had good turnout from the community so that was nice to see,” said Downing.
After the grand march the students set out for dinner, with about half of them heading for the Youth Enrichment Center for the prom banquet.
Dinner eventually turned into dancing as the students partied under the “Starry Night” theme with music provided by DJ Tad Barry.
“I think they all had a good time,” said Downing.
The party continued after the dance, with the students heading back to the middle school where the junior class parents hosted a post-prom party until the early hours of the morning featuring games, activities and a hypnotist for entertainment.
“It was a good year,” said Downing. “There was a lot of hard work put into it, and it paid off.”
