This past Monday, Charles City High School junior Maggie Boss attended the Iowa Youth Institute at Iowa State University.

While at the institute Boss and other high school students from across Iowa engaged with leading experts on critical global challenges, participated in hands-on activities, and explored exciting ways to make a difference in Iowa and around the world, according to information from the institute.

Boss wrote a paper regarding dietary diseases in China, specifically vegetable oil consumption and its effect on chronic disease. In doing so, Boss became a Bourlag scholar and received a $1,000 scholarship to Iowa State University.

If selected as one of the top students of IYI, Boss will advance to the Global Youth Institute in October.

Her faculty advisor is Charles City High School teacher Jim Lundberg.
