Floyd County will be full of family fun next week with a wide selection of events, attractions and activities planned for the Floyd County Fair.

“The fair is strong and it’s back and ready to go,” said fair board member Amy Staudt.

Though officially scheduled for July 19 to 23, the activities start as early as Monday, July 17, with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office putting on its Tornado Alley Obstacle Run. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with the obstacle course starting at 6 p.m. The Sheriff’s Office will also be holding a freewill donation grill out in the grandstand during the event. All proceeds will go toward the Sirius K9 Fund.

On Tuesday, July 18, the static exhibit judging begins, rating the various non-livestock 4-H entries that will be on display throughout the week. Later in the afternoon, the baking contest warms up at 4 p.m. Pies, cookies, and bars will be judged, along with cupcakes as a new category.

Tuesday evening will end with the coronation of this year’s fair royalty. The 2023 Floyd County fair queen will be announced in the Youth Enrichment Center at 6:30 p.m., along with the miniature royalty as Little Miss and Little Mr. Floyd will be selected.

Animals will take center stage when the fair starts in earnest on Wednesday, July 18. The morning will start with a dog show at 7 a.m., followed by a more varied pet show at noon and a horse show at 2 p.m.

From 5 to 9 p.m. visitors can enjoy Miller’s Petting Zoo, the Little Hands-on Interactive Farm Exhibit, and a brand new attraction, the NASCAR Experience.

“We’ll have a real NASCAR here that you can get in that simulates doing the racing,” said Staudt. “That’s a new one we’ve never had before.”

Scott’s World of Magic Show starts at 5 p.m. with an encore performance at 6:30 p.m., Co-Ed Sand Volleyball starts at 5:30 p.m., and the Brunon Blaszek’s Royal Bengal Tiger Show begins at 6 p.m.

These shows and exhibits will continue to run on Thursday, with the addition of Hurling Hatchets Mobile Axe Throwing, McBingo and inflatables starting at noon. A bean bag tournament hosted by the CCFFA will start at 2 p.m.

The first grandstand event of the fair starts on Thursday evening with the gates opening at 6 p.m. for Gunderson Racing’s Figure 8 races.

Even more activities will be featured on Friday, with Loony Balloonies, Knockerball, a hypnosis show with Terry Stokes Jr., Face Painting by Lindsey, and Caricatures by Steph throughout the afternoon. Live music by Peace N Love will play from 1-3 p.m., a Kids Pedal Pull will start at 2 p.m., and pony rides will be available in the show arena from 4-6 p.m.

Tuff Trucks will roll out at 7 p.m. for the evening’s grandstand event. For those looking for something more musical than mechanical, running concurrently will be a concert at the Midway Bandshell. Bonne Finken will open for the Pork Tornadoes, who start playing at 8:30 p.m.

Events and activities continue on Saturday, with a cornhole tournament scheduled for 2 p.m.

The last big event for the grandstand will be held on Saturday night with a demolition derby featuring full-sized cars slamming each other to destruction along with a Power Wheels division for the kids.

Outside the grandstand, Dueling Keys will feature back-to-back piano playing starting at 8 p.m.

Finally, the fair will wind down on Sunday with open show horse games in the morning. Visitors can spend the early afternoon checking out the rest of the exhibits before the fair closes out with the 4-H and FFA livestock auction at 3 p.m. along with the last call for grilling from the Floyd County Cattlemen.
