Greene Gardening Club hosts Herb Festival

It was a good day to have a green thumb in Green on Sunday as the Greene Gardening Club celebrated 30 years of the Greene Herb Festival.
“It was very good,” said Paulette Harris, who spearheaded the organization this year. “Everyone had a great day today here.”
The weather cooperated nicely as people flocked to Perrin Park for an afternoon of browsing for flowers and more. With 14 venders selling flowers, crafts, home décor, and more across Perrin Park, there was something for everybody to enjoy. New to this year, four food trucks were also set up to serve lunch for the event.
“We didn’t have to do the cooking,” said Rita Barth, who started the annual festival three decades ago. Barth organized the festival for many years, but recently decided to pass the job on to others in the garden club.
“She knows more about gardening than anybody I know,” said Harris.
Harris got to share some gardening wisdom herself at the event, presenting a short seminar in the afternoon.
With pleasant weather and a good crowd, gardening club members said the event was a success and they are looking forward to more years of hosting.
“I was really happy,” said Harris. “Everybody has just been fun to deal with.”
