Charles City Lions Field Pool ends swimming season with doggy night

Lions Field Pool went to the dogs on Sunday, Aug. 13, as the pool closed out the summer swimming season with the “PAWS Plunge.”

“It’s a great way to end the summer,” said PAWS Assistant Manager Jacie Peichel.

Inviting dog owners to give their pets a chance to play in the pool before it is drained and cleaned for the winter, the doggy swim night saw dozens of dogs of all breeds and sizes come out to swim and socialize for an evening.

From splashing around in the shallows to chasing tennis balls across the deep end, dogs and their owners enjoyed the special opportunity to play at the pool.

Proceeds for the event go to PAWS Humane Society, helping pay for vet care for the sheltered animals.

“Thanks to the community for coming to the event and supporting the animals,” said Peichel. “It’s always a good time.”

Full-up on potential pets in need of homes, PAWS will be holding another event this week at Tellurian Brewing on Thursday, Aug. 17, putting on “PAWS Night” for a meet-and-greet with some of their animals.
