Charles City Public Library to reopen ahead of schedule

The Charles City Public Library will be reopened much sooner than anticipated as the new lobby flooring installation is already nearly complete.

“They worked non-stop and we turned a four-week project into a week-and-a-half project,” said Library Director Annette Dean.

The library closed on Aug. 10 to replace floor tiling that had been improperly installed by a different contractor earlier this year. Anticipating four weeks of closure, plans were made to start curbside pick-up and find alternate locations for library programming through August.

Instead, Dean says that the library will be back open for regular business on Monday, Aug. 21.

“The Mooney Art Gallery will be open beginning August 28 during normal library hours,” said Dean. “We will continue our outreach programming scheduled for the remainder of August.”

For other programming, Library Loot pick-up will be available on Aug. 23 at the library, the Scrabble/Board Game group will meet in the library at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays, Get Messy children’s program will be at 3:30 p.m. on Aug 22 and 29, the walking club will meet by StoryWalk at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, and the Forth Wing book club will meet at Prologue Books and Wine on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m.
