The Charles City School District will celebrate homecoming all next week, beginning with a Sunday evening tailgate gathering and concluding with the homecoming dance Saturday night, with plenty of activities open to the public throughout the week.

The Sunday evening Booster Club tailgate at the Elks Lodge had been planned to include a bonfire, but that has been canceled because of dry conditions.

“There has been a burn ban issued for Floyd County,” said Dana Sullivan, school district activities director. “Obviously, this changes our plans for the bonfire that was set to kick off a great week of Homecoming festivities. Although we will not be lighting a fire, all other plans for the evening are on as scheduled.”

Included in this year’s tailgate, from 5 to 7 p.m. will be a free meal provided by Hy-Vee, including brats, hot dogs, chips, cookies and pop or water, along with yard games.

Dress-up days this week for the high school and middle school will be Monday, neon; Tuesday, tacky tourist; Wednesday, surfer v. biker; Thursday, red white and blue; and Friday, orange and black.
