Mason City woman taken to hospital after car is struck by train in Rudd

A Mason City woman was taken to the hospital after her vehicle was struck by a train Sunday evening in downtown Rudd.

Mason City woman taken to hospital after car is struck by train in RuddAccording to a report by the Iowa State Patrol, Yesenia Claypool, age 36, was driving a 2012 Hyundai Sonata northbound on 6th Street toward the railroad tracks between Depot Street and Chickasaw Street.

She drove around the railroad crossarms which were in the down horizontal position and her vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a Canadian Pacific train, the State Patrol report said.

She was transported to MercyOne-North Iowa hospital in Mason City “due to the extent of her injuries,” the report said.

The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.
