Charles City’s newest murals are finished.

After a couple weeks of painting through rain and sun, artist Molly Keen put the finishing touches on her downtown work of art over the weekend, filling the south wall of the 200 N. Main building with colorful variety of local traits and landmarks.

Keen’s mural is the second of two murals painted in the city this summer, with Andrea Ahrhardt and her crew painting the exterior wall of The Furniture Barn earlier in September with a peaceful scene showcasing four seasons in Iowa.

“I think both of these murals are great and they depict different aspects of Iowa,” said Town of Colors committee member Phoebe Pittman. “As a proud Iowan, I think they’re great to have.”

With this year’s mural’s up, the mural committee will be meeting soon to think about another project for next year. Pittman says that the committee has some ideas in mind, but it will depend on the locations available.
