The Charles City Arts Center has a new exhibit for the month of November.

This month the Arts Center will display “Intuition,” a collection of 13 ceramic sculptures created by Madalyn Vorrie of Dows.

An art teacher at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Vorrie crafted her collection of sculptures last year both during her pregnancy for her son, Jayce, and in the aftermath of his tragic stillbirth. Many of the pieces reflect her feelings and emotions as she worked through her grief.

“Some of the pieces helped me heal,” said Vorrie.

With an aesthetic of “alien flowers,” the sculptures feature a range of shapes and colors, with contrasts between their smooth curves and sharp features.

A frequent participant in the Charles City Arts Festival, Vorrie said she is happy to have her work presented at the Arts Center, and visited Charles City on Friday, Nov. 3, for an open house to discuss her work with visitors and see how it has been presented.

“I love how they arranged everything,” said Vorrie.
