Messiah’s Food Pantry received some help restocking its shelves on Monday with a delivery from Otto’s Oasis following the floral shop’s annual collection for the “2+10=12” campaign.
Part of a nationwide campaign that encourages people to bring in canned goods in exchange for a discount on roses, Otto’s Oasis has long been a participant to support the local food pantry.
This year the program sold out of 80 dozen roses and still had people coming in to drop off canned food items.
“This is probably one of the best years we’ve had,” said Christopher Anthony, manager at Otto’s Oasis.
Bringing in more than five crates of collected food along with monetary donations, the event is a welcome addition for the food bank as it prepare for a tight winter season.
“This is a big deal,” said volunteer Kathy Kimm. “Everything helps. That’s for sure.”
