As the New Year approaches, so does tax season.

Charles City taxpayers have a new, but familiar, option for preparing their annual taxes as River Bend Taxes opens for business.

“It’s time to see people again,” said Scott Dight, a career tax preparer with 31 years of experience.

River Bend Taxes opens in time for tax seasonDight has been working remotely since the COVID-19 pandemic, but said he is now ready to open up a new shop to work with clients face-to-face.

“COVID was not easy for a lot of people,” said Dight. “The one-on-one contact will be nice again.”

Named after the way the Cedar River bends near her home, River Bend Taxes is owned by Marian Dight, Scott’s mother. The pair previously worked together in Charles City for 18 years and have now opened a business together.

“We work pretty well together,” said Marian Dight.

The mother/son duo started thinking about opening a new business back in May, but things really kicked off in October when they rented an office space they previously occupied on Beck Street.

“We can’t get away from this building,” said Marian Dight.

Since then they’ve been getting everything cleaned, painted, and set up in anticipation of their launch.

“We got everything done and ready,” said Scott Dight.

Performing personal tax filings, River Bend Taxes is open five days a week and the Dights are eager to get started for the new tax season.

“It’s time to get back into the business,” said Scott Dight.
