Donna Holland is ready to cook for anybody that wants to come in for the Charles City Community Center’s daily noontime meal.

The Charles City Senior Center is now the Charles City Community Center.

Looking to shed the perception of only being a space for Charles City’s elder residents, the Community Center celebrated its new moniker with a special ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Jan. 24.

“We think that maybe this is a new start for us,” said Judy Hauser.

Chamber ambassadors, board members and program regulars gathered Wednesday for a short presentation about the building’s history and pork loin lunch to celebrate the change.

“I thought the whole thing was very informative,” said Barb Thomsen.

With membership open to any adult, the Community Center invites people to come in to play pool and cards or attend special programming.

Daily meals are also served at noon during weekdays for anybody that wishes to stop in for a bite to eat. Cost is a recommended $5 donation, and persons who want to eat are asked to make a reservation at least a day in advance by leaving a message any time of day at 641-228-3114.
