IC School celebrating National Catholic Schools Week

Immaculate Conception Elementary School will celebrate National Catholic Schools this weekend and next week with activities for students, families and the public.

National Catholic School week is an opportunity for Catholic schools to tell their stories and connect with prospective families, donors, educators and other community members, according to the National Catholic Education Association.

The activities begin Saturday evening, Jan. 27, with the IC Development Board’s annual dinner and fundraiser, held this year from 5 to 11 p.m. at Wrightz Auction, on U.S. Highway 218 north of Floyd.

The theme this year is Let’s Get Groovy,” with dinner by Flyin Bull BBQ and dessert by Sweets by Keke, live music by Chocolate Crackers, and a silent and live auction. Attendees are urged to dress in their best ’70s attire.

Sunday will feature a “Fill the Church” student-led Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Then next week will offer IC School-centered events. That schedule is:

• Monday, Jan. 29 – “Ride the Kindness Wave,” dress in beach or tourist clothes; classrooms will do random acts of kindness; Parent-Teacher Organization Family Bingo beginning at 6 p.m. in the IC school gym.
• Tuesday, Jan. 30 – “Scholar Day,” dress in favorite college or trade attire; teacher vs. student trivia contest; “Why I Love IC” writing contest.
• Wednesday, Jan. 31 – “IC Faith Day,” dress as your favorite saint; 9:15 a.m. Mass; mini course day; blessing of the new flag.
• Thursday, Feb. 1 – “IC Service Day,” dress is classroom challenge; classrooms will assemble service baskets for their designated family (items for these baskets can be donated all week).
• Friday, Feb. 2 – “IC Your Full Potential Day,” dress in IC blue and white; Alumni Day, IC birthday party and family picnic, 11 to 11:45 a.m.; IC Annual Ball Games, 1:30 p.m.; PTO Father-Daughter Dance from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the IC school gym.
• Saturday, Feb. 3 – PTO Melodies with Mom from 9 to 10 a.m. in the IC school gym.
