Things got squishy at the Charles City Public Library this week as kids made oobleck during the Get Messy program on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

The simple mixture of water and cornstarch creates a non-Newtonian fluid that isn’t quite a liquid, isn’t quite a solid, but is a simple science activity for the afternoon.

“It’s so fun,” said Children’s Librarian Stacey Leerhoff.

Along with learning how to make and play with the semi-solid substance, the kids also filled up balloons to make and decorate homemade stress balls.

Coming up for next week’s program, the library is planning a bingo activity for the kids.

Not quite a liquid, not quite a solid, making oobleck made for a unique learning experience for the Charles City Public Library’s Get Messy program.
