About noon Tuesday, Feb. 6, Charles City police, AMR ambulance and the Charles City Fire Department were called to an accident between an SUV and a motorcycle at a Charles City intersection.
According to a report by the Charles City Police Department, “A 2016 Jeep operated by 59-year-old Martha Ceja from Charles City was traveling northbound on South Iowa Street when it was struck by a 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by 40-year-old John Williams from Ionia, who was traveling eastbound on Waller Street.”
Williams was transported by AMR ambulance to Floyd County Medical Center, where he was picked up by MercyOne Air Med and transported to MercyOne-North Iowa in Mason City.
The Fire Department said the motorcyclist sustained “numerous injuries” and the driver of the vehicle “was a little shaken up but otherwise OK.”
One firefighter commented at the scene on how unusual it was to respond to a motorcycle accident in February.
“Cross streets can be hazardous intersections and should be crossed with caution,” the Fire Department advised.
It also urged people to keep an eye out for motorcyclists and bicyclists who might be on the streets because of the unseasonably warm weather. High temperatures have been in the 40s and 50s this week.
The police report said charges are pending in the event. It said about $4,000 damage was done to both vehicles.
