The soup was on at the former Lutheran church in Marble Rock as the Marble Rock Historical Society hosted a soup supper and bake sale fundraiser on Tuesday, March 5.

Serving up Chicken Wild Rice, Sausage Potato, Beef Barley, Vegetable and Taco soups, along with a variety of freshly baked goods, the event drew in a big crowd to the former church to enjoy the evening dinner.

“I’m just thrilled about the turnout,” said Historical Society President Diane Black. “We didn’t know what to expect.”

The Marble Rock Historical Society took possession of the former St. Paul’s Lutheran Church last October after the church closed. This is the first event that the organization has held at the building since taking it over.

“They approached us and asked if we would like the building, and so we swung a deal,” said Clayton Black. “This is kind of our kick-off.”

The soup supper may be the first event the historical society held at the building, but it won’t be the last. Coming up in April the group will be hosting a historical author and have plans to keep using the building for other activities.

“Hopefully we’ll be doing something at least once a month,” said Clayton Black.

Funds raised during the soup supper will go toward the continued development of a gift shop for the group’s western façade, Beelar Station.

“Hopefully we’ll have that ready for our Relics and Rides event this Memorial Day weekend,” said Clayton Black.
