A series of spooky storylines crossed paths this weekend as the Charles City Middle School drama department presented its spring play, “Camp Twilight.”
Featuring a varied cast of campers, counselors, and creatures, the play drew on the acting talents of Emma Read, Dixie Price, Katherine Vandeventer, Dixie Wilson, Seirria Heinz, Kylie Pickar, Audriana Luckett, Devony O’Brien, Isbella Pizano, Kambrya Fisher, Emma Shannon, Evelynn Williams, Ava Kostka, Brynlee Bergeson, Rhlen Ellison, Ben Hammon, Katie Soifer, Renner Kober, Bella Moses, Elizeah Causey, and Demaya Sheilds.
Working behind the scenes, Clarissa Williams, Ziare Price, Kristopher Copper, and Jeslyn Hester managed the sounds and lights while Joi Williams, Aiden Fielder, Addy Griffin, Pearl Matlock, and Jayla Monroe were in charge of making the stage set and props.
Under the direction of Lynn Bauer and Yvonne Copper, the middle school kids took charge of the production, going well beyond simply memorizing lines and setting the stage.
“We gave the opportunity for these kids to be a part of every aspect of theatre, and proud is only scratching the surface of how we felt once the shows were done,” said Bauer. “They brought energy, they learned new and hard things, they created an amazing set, put together props, as well as designing their own promotional posters, and even our camp shirts were hand made.”
The play debuted at the Charles Theatre on Friday, March 8, with an encore performance on Saturday afternoon. Following the show, the drama kids celebrated a successful production with a pizza party and their own private awards.
“Watching as they cheered each other on is exactly why I love doing this,” said Bauer.
