It was a jazzy night out as the Charles City High School Music Department put on its annual Jivin’ with Jazz dinner concert on Tuesday, March 26.
Filing into the Youth Enrichment Center at the Floyd County Fairgrounds, community music lovers enjoyed an evening of socialization, dinner and music courtesy of the high school jazz students.
A joint effort between the jazz kids and volunteer parents, ticket holders were served a dinner of chicken cordon bleu with a side of vegetables, baked potato and a dinner roll. A sizable selection of delectable desserts provided by the parents was also available to enjoy at the event or to take home for later.
Dressed in their jazzy best, the students served meals and bussed tables throughout the dinner portion of the evening. Funds raised during the event through ticket sales, dessert purchases and a silent auction will go toward supporting the general activities of the music department.
Following dinner, the audience enjoyed a selection of songs from the high school jazz band, jazz ensemble, and, for their final performance of the season, “Rhymes With Orange.” The casual evening out featured 14 songs from the performers, and while the audience was encouraged to dance along with the music, most were content with recording the concert and enjoying the company of their community.
