New residents to Charles City were welcomed to town with a special open house reception event at the Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, April 11.

Offering snacks and refreshments Thursday afternoon, the new program was developed as a way to help newcomers to the community become more acclimated to Charles City.

“We’ll probably look at doing this once or twice a year,” said Community Development Director Mark Wicks.

Along with offering a welcome bag to new residents, the Chamber is eager to connect people with information about community resources, volunteer opportunities, and even guided tours of the city.

“We want to make sure people know this is a place people can come to in order to learn about where they’re living,” said Wicks.

Though the cookies and drinks were out for the open house event, Wicks says that people can come anytime during regular business hours to find out about what is available in the community.

“We just want to make people aware that there’s information here,” said Wicks. “You don’t know what you’re missing out on.”
