Charles City Arts Center again presents Global Cafe
To The Press
Charles City Arts Center’s Global Cafe returns on Saturday, April 20. The popular “foodie” event will take place at the Elks Lodge from 5 to 7 p.m.
This year’s event will showcase foods like taco soup from Mexico, karythopita (spiced walnut cake) from Greece, chorizo bacon dates from Spain, while also serving more well known items like a lasagna representing Italy and Korean pork from Korea.
Charles City Arts Council President Robert Mulcahy, says the event has goals beyond simply raising money for the Arts Center.
“We think of it as a way to expand the Art Center’s public presence while also promoting global awareness through exposing the community to enticing International dishes.”
Board members and volunteers serve the food “buffet style” in a line. Attendees can take whatever they wish to try and pass on what they don’t. They will also be issued “food passports” where they can input the foods they try.
The event sold out last year and Mulcahy is excited to see another great turnout for the Spring 2024 event.
“I enjoy watching the community learn about other cultures through food. It’s a great way to socialize with others while also helping out a local organization financially.”
Tickets for the event are $20 and available online at charlescityarts.org or in person at the door or at the Arts Center. The proceeds support the Charles City Arts Centers mission to encourage and advance the understanding and appreciation of the arts in the Charles City community.
The Elks Lodge is located at 2111 Clark Street in Charles City. For more information call: 641-228-6284 or email charlescityarts@gmail.com.
