The 19th Amendment Society celebrated the grand opening of its Little Red Shed with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Carrie Chapman Catt Girlhood Home on Saturday, May 4.

In the works for about two years, the Little Red Shed will serve as secure storage for equipment at the historical site along with space for small groups to do outdoor activities.

“This is just a great space to have,” said Co-President Cheryl Erb. “It’s been terrific.”

The shed was finished last July, but the grand opening was pushed to last weekend. With cookies and drinks on hand, the 19th Amendment Society welcomed visitors out to the historical site to share the story about the shed and the vintage Suffrage Wagon it will house.

“We were thrilled that the Chamber Ambassadors came out to help us dedicate this addition to our site,” said Erb.

The 19th Amendment Society is gearing up for a busy summer, training new guides for tours, hosting its annual Prairie Day Camp, and looking forward to a bumper crop for apple picking.

The organization is also still offering sidewalk brick dedications as a fundraiser, which will conclude with a dedication scheduled for Aug. 17.
