Two Charles City FFA teams qualified and competed at the State Envirothon Contest on Monday, April 29th.

Team 1 finished eighth in the state, with members Brayden Ellis, Quinn Heidebrink, Jordin Ritter, Gabe Rogstadt and Nick Williams.

Team 2 finished 13th in the state, with members Bryce Elsbury, Hunter Northrup, Zach Sonne, Dylan Stewart and Bryce Walker.

The National Conservation Foundation Envirothon is an environmental and natural resource conservation problem-solving, team-building and leadership experience and competition for ninth through 12th grade students across the U.S., according to Bret Spurgin, Charles City High School agricultural education teacher and FFA advisor.

“Iowa Envirothon challenges students statewide to hone critical thinking skills and create inventive solutions to the complex local environmental and natural resource issues facing Iowans today,” Spurgin said.

Through regional testing and the state competition, teams of Iowa high school students earn a chance to deep dive into valuable environmental and natural resource problem-solving, team-building and leadership experiences.

In Iowa, the Conservation Districts of Iowa manage this competition. Teams of students sign up for regional on-line exams, and the teams with the top 15 scores at the regional level are invited to the state competition in the spring.
