The Charles City Community School District has announced its choice for a new superintendent for the upcoming school year.

Dr. Brian Burnight has been offered a contract to become the new district superintendent, following a series of interviews with the school board and district stakeholders on Monday, May 6.

Burnight, one of three finalists for the position following a search process conducted by McPherson & Jacobson LLC, was most recently the Director of Elementary Education at Sioux City Community School District, where he served from 2012 to 2013. Prior to that, he worked as an elementary principal and middle school assistant principal in California.

“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Burnight to the CCCSD as our new superintendent,” said school board president Dr. David Schrodt. “He brings an extensive background in education, from science teacher to administration. His knowledge and work experience in all levels of public education, combined with the goals set by the Board of Education, will improve our students’ academic opportunities and results.”

Presuming Burnight accepts, he will assume the role as superintendent on July 1.
