A donation by Yokohama TWS of Charles City is aimed at helping the Charles City Fire Department respond to grain bin entrapments.
The “Great Wall of Rescue” kit includes metal panels, ropes, drills, pulleys, and other items needed for first responders to conduct a grain bin rescue.
“We’re trying to stay committed to our involvement in the community,” said Yokohama’s Chris Neidert. “Hopefully it never has to be used.”
Dozens of potentially fatal grain bin accidents happen every year in rural communities, with Charles City firefighters responding to one in the area within the last couple of years. The rescue equipment allows firefighters to negate the pressure exerted by thousands of pounds of grain, allowing them to safely extract somebody who has been trapped.
“It’s fantastic,” said Fire Chief Marty Parcher. “It’s so appreciated.”
