It was an afternoon of trucks and treats as the Charles City Public Library held its Touch-a-Truck activity on Wednesday, June 19.
“It’s fantastic,” said children’s librarian Stacey Leerhoff. “It’s a fun event.”
More than 200 kids were counted coming through the library parking lot to get a firsthand look at a variety of vehicles. Along with public service vehicles like a Fire Department fire truck, AMR ambulance, Police Department cruiser and a city work truck, the event also featured a utility truck from MidAmerican Energy, a Jendro garbage truck, and construction equipment from Swartzrock Implement.
Along with kids being able to see the vehicles, many of the participating organizations had volunteers to answer questions and give demonstrations about the different equipment they use.
As an extra treat, library staff served up freshly spun cotton candy for kids and parents alike to enjoy as they checked out the visiting vehicles.
The outside activities at the library will continue next week as kids are invited to get bombarded by bubbles for the Wonderful Wednesday Foam Party at 1 p.m. on June 26.
