Thomson running for re-election, looks ahead to next legislative session
To The Press
Iowa state Rep. Charley Thomson, R-Charles City, has announced his re-election campaign and priorities for the next legislative session.
“I am extremely proud to have so many supportive constituents who have given both their time and treasure to support my re-election campaign, as well as frequently making their opinions heard this past legislative session on important issues and bills,” Thomson said. “I want to thank all that contributed their voices and let them know all of their concerns were heard and taken into consideration.”

Thomson said he is looking forward to knocking on doors, walking in parades, holding events and talking with residents of District 58, which includes all of Floyd County except the northwestern townships of Rock Grove and Rockford, and and all of Chickasaw County and the northeast two-thirds of Bremer County.
Thomson, who has completed his first two-year term in office, ran unopposed in the Republican primary election for the nomination to represent District 58. His opponent in November will be Gail Allison of Ionia, who ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
Thomson said one of his biggest legislative priorities if he is reelected is to continue fighting against “eminent domain abuse.”
“As a lawyer, it pains me to see the eminent domain power being abused, especially by a shadowy pack of out-of-state and foreign operatives,” he said, referring to the Summit Carbon Solutions carbon dioxide pipeline project proposal.
“Both the way this project is being advanced and the project itself are putting Iowa lives and livelihoods in danger. As a state, we absolutely must bring this particular project to a screeching halt, and we have to revise our laws so that property owners cannot be abused like this in the future,” he said.
“We have amazing people here, and getting to represent them at the state Capitol has been a true honor. I am confident that we can truly make a difference for our district and state this November, but also our country by doing our part to re-elect Donald J. Trump,” he said.
