Rescheduled Party in the Park this Friday

Second rescheduled PIP event also set for July 26

Charles City finally got in a Party in the Park on July 5th after inclement weather forced the cancellation of the first two planned PIP events earlier this summer.

Both of those events have been rescheduled – the first one this Friday, July 12th, and the second on Friday, July 26th. The fourth Party in the Summer is still planned for its original date of Aug. 2nd.

Now in its 21st year, Party in the Park is organized by Main Street Charles City and held in Central Park from 5-9 p.m.

Jazzy/funky/rock/blues band Deja Blue will be featured at this year’s first Party in the Park, May 31.

In addition to free admission and live music, each party offers food and beverage vendors, a beer garden, various activities and display booths.

“The family-friendly event is a great way to connect with friends and neighbors, unwind with work colleagues and entertain guests and visitors,” said Mark Wicks, the Charles City community development director.

The “jazzy/funky/rocking blues band” Deja Blue will be featured this Friday. The group of seven musical veterans hails from the Waterloo area. The group is well known for hosting a weekly jam night at the Screaming Eagle American Bar and Grill in downtown Waterloo.

Other scheduled Party in the Park acts this summer are Endless Edition, a new band featuring Charles City’s own Gene Parson from Endless Summer on July 26th, as well as the Kris Karr Band at the Aug. 2nd PIP finale.

Activities planned in the park this Friday include a miniature golf course, inflatable bounce house, barrel train rides, ring toss and yard games. Food vendors scheduled to be on hand July 12th include Barbara & Maria’s Tacos, Churason (Okinawa cuisine), Island Grill, The Cookie Doughtique, Whatcha Like and the Rotary Popcorn Wagon.

As in past years, special PIP Tokens will be used in the park to purchase food, beverages or take part in some of the activities. They are available for $1 each from the Main Street Charles City tent near the center of the park, or from red apron-wearing token sellers wandering around the grounds. The orange tokens are good at all four PIP events this year, as well as in future years.

Making the July 12th Party in the Park possible is presenting sponsor Yokohama TWS, along with co-sponsors Central Park Dentistry, CUSB Bank, Fareway, First Security Bank & Trust, Larry Pump CPA and Subway.
