Cedar Valley Engine Club putting up new building for antique equipment storage

The Cedar Valley Engine Club is hard at work this summer constructing an addition to its show grounds.
Since July 1, the club members have been spending their free time putting up a new Quonset-style building to house the club’s ever-expanding collection of antique items.
“We’ve had some people that have offered to donate vintage items to the club, but they don’t want to donate it if we don’t have a place to put it,” said club member Steve Montag.
Concrete for the 55 foot by 100 foot structure was poured last fall, but the construction started this summer with club members going out to assemble it one bolt at a time.
“We’re at the halfway point,” said club member Al Koenigsfeld.
The $70,000 project is a big expense for the non-profit club. It received $10,000 from the Ruble Foundation along with $3,500 from the Floyd County Community Foundation, but will gladly accept additional donations to help with the costs.
Checks written out to the Cedar Valley Engine Club can be mailed to 3124 230th St., Charles City.
Likewise, the construction of the building is a considerable amount of work for a club whose members aren’t exactly on the young side, so youthful volunteers, or even new members, would be appreciated.
“We appreciate all the help that people have given,” said Koenigsfeld.
Regardless, the club hopes to have the building up and running in time for its upcoming Labor Day Weekend Show in September.
