Charles City Fire Department, Police Department monitor gas leak

At 1:15 p.m. Friday, July 19, the Charles City Fire Department was paged to a gas leak at the corner near North Grand Avenue at the North Main Street road construction area.

“While digging, the crews struck a line which resulted in a hole in the line,” the Fire Department reported.

Fire Department personnel monitored the area with four gas meters and worked with the Charles City Police Department to block off the area to prevent vehicle and pedestrians from entering.

After just over an hour MidAmerican Energy was able to shut the gas line down and fire crews were able to give the all clear then return to the station.
