It was a week of ag shows, activities, and events as the Floyd County Fair hosted its annual offerings from July 16-21.

“It was really busy out there,” said Floyd County Fair Board President Kelsey Uetz. “It was a great turnout.”

Kicking off on Tuesday with Royalty Night, Jada Litterer was crowed 2024’s Floyd County Fair Queen at the Fame, Fun, and Royalty Ceremony.

The events and activities officially got underway on Wednesday with a variety of shows and attractions. Miller’s Petting Zoo brought in goats, pigs, birds and more for kids to feed while the Butterfly Encounter presented the opportunity to get up close with the delicate insects.

“We had a lot of great compliments about the entertainment,” said Uetz. “It kept the kids busy.”

New to the fair this year was the Live Shark Encounter show, where audiences got to learn about sharks and see them up close.

More kids activities throughout the week included inflatables, magic shows, pedal pulls, face painting and even a foam party, where kids enjoyed getting bombarded with bubbles.

For the grown-ups, the fair was host to a sand volleyball tournament, live music, and, of course, a selection of popular grandstand events.

From figure eight races to demolition derbies, the fairgrounds grandstand enjoyed big crowds over the weekend.

Turnout to the fair may have been bolstered this year by accommodating weather as moderate temperatures kept things pleasant throughout the week.

“We were fortunate to have really good weather this year,” said Uetz. “Usually it’s really, really hot, so this was nice.”

Uetz said she is thankful for the community support that made this year’s fair a sweeping success. From organizations and businesses that bring programming and entertainment, to the volunteers that keep things running smoothly, to the attendees that faithfully fill the stands, it takes everybody working together to put on the event, she said.

“It kind of went off without a hitch,” said Uetz.
