Kading’s development, construction and property management teams will meet with the town’s top employers, city planners and economic development leaders to assess the possibility of expanding a Kading development to Charles City.

“The timing is right as the challenges facing Charles City impact growth,” said Kading CEO Karie Kading Ramsey.

“We maintain all our 28 Kading communities across Iowa,” Kading said. “That means we don’t build and sell them off. When we build in a community, we’re committed to staying.”

Charles City was designated as a Thriving Community by the Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) in 2023 and has cause for drawing more housing to the area as local pharmaceutical and food plants plan expansions and create more jobs.

“Workforce housing is a key driver in supporting that important balance between bringing job opportunities to a community and the workforce’s need for housing they can afford,” said Chace Hauschilt, development and operations specialist for Kading.

“When the workforce doesn’t have to drive 20 miles to work, they are more apt to stay in their jobs and spend their discretionary income in that community. This is the circle of sustainability that Charles City recognizes they need,” Hauschilt said.

During the Hometown Tour in Charles City, Kading will engage in discussions with local stakeholders to better understand the community’s needs and explore potential development projects that align with those needs.

By working closely with the town’s leaders and residents, Kading aims to create sustainable housing solutions that contribute to the long-term growth and prosperity of Charles City, the company said.

Other Iowa towns on the inaugural Hometown Tours road trip were Corydon and Oskaloosa earlier this month. Additional towns will include Cherokee and Nevada.
