New food truck rolls out in Charles City

Charles City has new option for dinner rolling around.
Since July, Alex Heitz and his family have been making the rounds in The Spud Bus, a new food truck specializing in potato based entrees.
“I just thought I’d do something different,” said Heitz.
The Spud Bus offers baked potatoes, French fries, and tater tots, all of which can be combined with a variety of toppings like beef, chicken, chili, vegetables and more.
“You can load them any way you like,” said Heitz.
Starting on July 1, Heitz has been taking his entry into the food truck business slow, being selective about where he parks as he learns what he needs to be prepared for.
“I haven’t been going to anything big because I’m nervous,” said Heitz. “You don’t want to come out and land on your face.”
The Spud Bus has also become a family affair, with helping hands from wife, Andrea, and their children, LuLu and Carter.
“It’s fun to be there,” said LuLu, who helps take orders and serve people.
While taking it slow when it comes to summer events, the Spud Bus is still getting around, parking in lots around Charles City. As he gets more experience and works the kinks out, Heitz hopes to become more active by the time fall comes around and people become more in the mood for a hot potato.
“As it gets colder, you’ll see a lot more of me around town,” said Heitz.
