The summer of dragons came to a close this week at the Charles City Public Library as kids and families enjoyed the final dragon-themed activity of the season.
On Tuesday, Aug. 13, kids and families came in to craft “dragon eyes” out of colored clay, shaping and decorating it into the fantasy eye of their imaginations.
“They can make spikes on it, or curlicues,” said children’s librarian Stacey Leerhoff. “They can make it as fantastical as they’d like.”
All summer the library has kept kids engaged with a series of dragon-themed activities and events, from hiding 20 dragons around the city to find, to creating collectable dragon cards as rewards for summer reading, and a variety dragon-themed crafts.
“I think it went really well,” said Leerhoff.
With summer almost over, the library’s children’s programming is getting prepared for after-school routines.
Get Messy programs will start up again on Tuesday afternoons and Wednesdays will have regular programming for kids for when school has early dismissal. The library will also have its “Cooking Around The World” program going for kids to expand their horizons with new foods.
