Charles City School District Homecoming activities begin Sunday, Sept. 8, go all week

A week of activities lies ahead as the Charles City School District celebrates Homecoming with a theme this year of “Something in the Orange.”

The festivities kick off Sunday evening, Sept. 8, with a Booster Club Tailgate from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 2111 Clark St. Free brats, hot dogs, chips, cookies and pop or water will be provided by Hy-Vee, and there will be yard games available, according to information from the district.

At 7 p.m. Sunday the Homecoming Kick-Off Pep Rally and Bonfire will begin at the Elks Lodge property.

Dress-up days will be held throughout the week at all the schools, with this schedule:

  • High school – Monday, Generation Day; Tuesday, Zoom Day (school picture day); “On Wednesdays, We Wear Pink”; Thursday, BBQ Dad vs. Soccer Mom.
  • Middle school – Monday, PJ Day; Tuesday, Twin Day; Wednesday, school picture day; Thursday, ‘Merica Day.’
  • Elementary schools – Monday, Hat Day; Tuesday, Neon Day; Wednesday, Wild Sock Day; Thursday, Team Day.
  • On Friday Spirit Day all students and staff are encouraged to dress in orange and black.

On Friday, Sept. 13, Homecoming activities will begin with the pep rally at 1:30 p.m. in the Comet Gym, followed by the Homecoming Court coronation at 2:30 p.m.

Members of the 2024 Homecoming Court are Anya Ruzicka, Payton Hadley, Natalie King, Jadyn Van Horn, Emerson Bohlen, Quinn Heidebrink, Brayden Ellis, Blake Hoeft, Jordin Ritter and Xander Graeser.

The annual Homecoming Parade will begin at 4 p.m. Friday. Persons or groups interested in a parade entry should contact Tom Bock at Charles City Electronics, 641-228-1521.

At 5 p.m. Friday the Comet grade 9-10 football team will play at Comet Field, followed by the Homecoming Court recognition at 7 p.m., then the varsity football game against Waterloo East beginning at 7:30 p.m.

At halftime of the football game the CCHS Marching Band and Dance Team will perform “Watch Party: TV on Demand.”

Homecoming Week will conclude with the Homecoming Dance beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, in the high school cafeteria.

Throughout the week other Charles City School District middle school and high school teams will also play. That schedule is:

Monday, Sept. 9 –

  • 6 p.m., JV football at Comet Field.

Tuesday, Sept. 10 –

  • 4 p.m., 7-8 grade cross country at W-SR.
  • 4:15 p.m., 7th grade volleyball at Decorah.
  • 4:15 p.m., 8th grade volleyball in the high school gym.
  • 5 p.m., 9th & JJV grade volleyball at New Hampton.
  • 6 p.m., JV volleyball at New Hampton.
  • 7:15 p.m., Varsity volleyball at New Hampton.

Thursday, Sept. 12 –

  • 4:15 p.m., 7th grade volleyball at New Hampton.
  • 4:15 p.m., 8th grade volleyball High School Gym.
  • 5 p.m., varsity cross country at North Fayette Valley.
  • 5 p.m., varsity volleyball triangular at the Comet Gym.
