It was a perfect day for golf on Wednesday, Sept. 4, as the Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its 28th Annual Chamber Golf Tournament.
Fourteen teams of four went out to Wildwood Golf Course across an afternoon and evening session for a friendly contest of 9-Hole Best Shot.
“This is a fun golf outing as opposed to a hardcore tournament,” said Community Development Director Mark Wicks. “It’s just about getting out there and having fun.”
Along with aiming for the lowest score, each hole also featured a special challenge, such as seeing how far each player could drive a marshmallow.
Participants also enjoyed door prizes, goodie bags, a 50/50 raffle, and more, with items donated by area businesses for the event.
While just a friendly tournament, a contest is still a contest and this year saw the end of Team Edward Jones’ four-year winning streak.
Finishing the course with a 7-under score of 29 was the team from Daniels Auto Collision, made up of Jason Daniels, Jaxon Daniels (who also got the top distance of the marshmallow drive), Cody Blunt and Caden Blunt.
Team Edward Jones, who until now has won every contest since 2019, came in a close second with a score of 30; followed by two-way tie between Team Chautauqua and Team Valero, who each entered a score of 31.
Win or lose, at the end of the tournament the teams gathered at the clubhouse to socialize and enjoy a burger bar.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better day,” said Wicks. “It went really, really well.”
