Charles City will see a lot of “Something in Orange” this week as the school district celebrates Homecoming.
The festivities kicked off on Sunday evening with a tailgate party at the Charles City Middle School where and Hy-Vee’s Phil Hammermeister served up food and State Farm’s Jeremy Rogstad DJ’ed the music while kids enjoyed games of catch, bags, and touch football before the big pep rally.
“Hy-Vee and State Farm did a great job of helping us out,” said Superintendent Dr. Brian Burnight. “It was a great start to Homecoming week.”
On Monday, students hit the streets, painting the town orange and black as some students went to work to make their annual street art on Comet Drive while others headed downtown to decorate businesses with Comet pride.
Activities will continue through the week with students enjoying daily dress-up days. Tuesday you’ll see the high schoolers dressed for Zoom success, pairing professional tops with comfy pajama bottoms. On Wednesday they wear pink to celebrate the 2004 movie “Mean Girls.” On Thursday, the kids will be dressing like mom and dad, showing their parents what they look like at the family barbecue. And Friday, of course, Spirit Day will see everyone dressed up in Comet orange and black, all leading up to the Homecoming parade, which starts down Main Street at 4 p.m.
The parade will rally the community for the Comets ahead of their game against the Waterloo East Trojans.
