Floyd County Medical Center announces new orthopedic surgery team

Floyd County Medical Center will soon welcome a new orthopedic surgery team to its list of visiting specialists, the Medical Center announced.
Jeffery Clark, DO, and Brenda Cooper, ARNP, of Cedar Valley Orthopedics in Cedar Falls, are expected to begin clinic appointments in mid-September, followed by surgical procedures approximately three or four weeks later.
Initially, Clark will see patients and perform surgical procedures two days per week at FCMC’s Outpatient Specialty Clinic and surgery department.
“We are ecstatic that Dr. Clark and Ms. Cooper will soon be able to serve patients here in Charles City,” said Jon Perin, chief ambulatory officer at FCMC. “Having specialized orthopedic care close to home is so important for our patients, and we are excited that we can offer these services to our community.”
Clark has been practicing orthopedics in the Cedar Falls area since 2000, focused on enabling patients to overcome their physical challenges, whether they are related to injury or the aging process.
During that time, he has also served as the team physician for the University of Northern Iowa and Wartburg College. An expert in sports-related injuries, Clark has been on the sidelines for more than 500 Division I football, basketball and wrestling competitions.
Since 2006, Clark has been performing the direct anterior approach for total hip replacement in Iowa. This alternative approach is gaining popularity because of its shorter recovery time and decreased risk of dislocation, among other benefits, FCMC said.
Currently, Clark is the only surgeon in northeast Iowa using the Mako Stryker Robot for the direct anterior approach for total hip replacement.
“I am thrilled to start the new orthopedics program at Floyd County Medical Center, advancing care and innovation in orthopedics,” said Clark.
Cooper, a nurse practitioner, has more than two decades of experience in orthopedics and has worked closely with Clark for 24 years, which includes providing treatment and sideline care for collegiate athletes. Her clinical expertise and comprehensive knowledge will allow her to assist Clark with pre- and post-op surgery care, FCMC said.
“The addition of Dr. Clark and Brenda Cooper to our medical staff is one more way that FCMC is living its mission,” said Dawnett Willis, chief executive officer at FCMC. “We are very excited to welcome them to our community.”
