Back-to-school went back in time on Saturday as the Floyd County Museum invited kids to learn about education in the olden days during the fall Museum Kids program.

“We spent some time talking about what school would have been like in the past,” said Museum Director Mckenna Lloyd.

Twelve kids registered for the Saturday morning program where they learned how their ancestors would have gotten ready for school. They saw what it was like to live in a log cabin, took a trip to the general store to pick up school supplies, and sat in a single room classroom. There they received a lesson in cursive writing, made their own bookmarks and learned how to play marbles.

Lloyd says that they are trying to make the Museum Kids a quarterly program, with the next event planned for sometime in January.
