Linsey Koenigs of Charles City is days away from realizing a years-long dream – opening a hair salon.

The dream will come easier now with the help of her family’s $250,000 Iowa Lottery win.

“I couldn’t believe it, I was just so nervous, like, ‘We have all this! What are we going to do with it?’” said Koenigs.

Koenigs, 39, split the $250,000 prize with two other family members. Her father-in-law purchased their winning ticket at Kum & Go in Northwood. The winners claimed their prize Tuesday at the lottery’s Mason City office.

The money comes at the perfect time for Koenigs, who is opening the Beard & Beauty Bar salon next Tuesday, Oct. 1, in Charles City.

“I’ve been doing hair for 13 years, so I was like, I want to do my own thing,” said Koenigs.

She said her share of the winnings will help pay for the many expenses that come with opening a new business.

Lucky 7 Bonus is a $20 scratch game that features 20 top prizes of $250,000, 76 prizes of $10,000 and overall odds of 1 in 2.88.
